The game also features a new announcer voice heard in all modes of gameplay (including the Classic sound option), so as to accomodate the update's new features (added character names, the change of USSR to Russia, the title call at the end of the new opening sequence, and so forth). If the sound setting is in New Style, however, the characters will use the Japanese voice actors and sound effects from the current Street Fighter games since Street Fighter IV and onwards, rather than also having English voice actors while in that graphic mode.

Classic sound settings' sounds remain the same as the previous Street Fighter II update series.Ĭharacter select screen with Shin Akuma being selected. Īs with the graphics, there are both Classic and New Style sound options to choose between. There is also a Dramatic Battle Mode, called "Buddy Battle", that was featured in home versions of Street Fighter Alpha games, which allows two players to face CPU opponents together. Inevitably, there will be a patch that beats the game into shape, but until that day it’s impossible to recommend this spoiled update of Capcom’s evergreen title. There are two graphic options, which are "Classic" and "New Style" graphics. Considering this is a modest six-year-old engine that runs flawlessly on the existing PC port, there’s really no excuse for such poor performance. Menus are jerky, music skips, moves are buggy and broken and, to top it all off, it suffers from input lag, an issue the PS4 version was promoted as having fixed over the PS3 iteration. Sadly, the quality of the port falls some way short of Capcom’s in-house standards.

Sure, the content presented is comprehensive, featuring the most up-to-date revision of the game, complete with 44 characters, the hyperactive Omega mode and every DLC costume to date (including the hilarious animal wild pack). Sadly, the emphasis here is on the dirty. Served up as an appetiser for next year’s PS4-exclusive Street Fighter V, Sony has commissioned a quick and dirty next-gen port of the landmark title responsible for reviving the fighting game genre.
